Flavors of the sea

Ponteceso territory is characteristic of many trades linked to the sea. The "percebeiro" work (goose barnacle picker) is perhaps the most iconic and at the same time, risky of all jobs done in Costa da Morte. These workers risk their lives to pick up this highest quality crustacean from Cape Roncudo cliffs. Although it is entirely professional job now, in the past it occupied entire families, men and women going to the banks to get the precious seafood.

Here is the testimony of a professional Goose barnacle picker who tells us his testimony.

Suso Lista, percebeiro

Suso Lista

How long the "percebeiros" have used the "ferrada" as the only tool to pick this crustacean from the steep cliffs of Ponteceso coast while watching the waves coming? Which one is the best barnacle? And, how does a barnacle taste? The "percebeiro" Suso Lista tells us about this dangerous profession.
